KUMAIL ASKARI
Chief Justice
Hey all! My name's Kumail Askari, and I'm a current senior at La Cueva High School. I'm beyond exhilarated to be serving as the Sixty-Seventh New Mexico Youth and Government Chief Justice. A little bit about my YAG journey: this is my 3rd year in the YAG program, and I have served previously as State Auditor in 2026. I've participated in the Conference on National Affairs twice, serving as a chair, and the National Judicial Competition twice, where I served as a Chief Justice.
Outside of YAG, I'm an active participant in Speech and Debate and Model UN. Additionally, I also work with my faith-based community at the local mosque and volunteer as a coach for the Desert Ridge Middle School Tennis Team. Some sillier aspects of me are that I really enjoy pickleball and my favorite Supreme Court justices ever are Antonin Scalia and Sonia Sotomayor.
I'm very excited to serve as the Chief Justice to help delegates establish confidence in reading case law and building arguments to present to the court. If you have any questions, please reach out to me at judicial@nmyag.com or on Instagram @Justiceaskari.

MATEO MADRID LARRAÑAGA
State Auditor
Hello! My name is Mateo Madrid Larranaga, and I am honored to be this year’s State Auditor. I am a current sophomore at Albuquerque High School. Last year, I took part in both the Task Force and NIF and this year I am excited to help lead both. Along with my fellow officers Wilson and Lucia I hope to incorporate fun and education to my position as well as continue to learn about the civic systems myself.
Outside of the world of YAG, I participate in my school’s Mock Trial, Dream Makers, and MESA programs. But above anything I love playing music. I play violin, percussion, and drum set in my school’s orchestra, mariachi, marching band, and jazz band, as well as my church’s choir. I hope I can connect with a few of you other instrumentalists this year at YAG.
Thank you all for accepting me for this position! If you ever have any questions about the Task Force or NIF program please contact me through the YAG email below.

WILSON HUMMINGBIRD
Land Commissioner
Hi! My name is Wilson Hummingbird, and I am currently a junior at the Albuquerque Institute for Math and Science. This is going to be my 3rd year in YAG, having previously been in the Legislative and Judicial branch. I am very honored to serve as the 2027 Commissioner of Public Lands. I hope to lead a smooth process in Task Force and National Issues Forum, while also learning a bit about everyone who is participating.
Outside of YAG, I am juggling Model UN, DECA, and Mock Trial. I put a lot of focus into school, probably a bit too much, but it's still important to have some downtime. In my free time, I can usually be found playing the piano or reading books on political science and public policy.
In my opinion, I don't believe that leaders and officers should be intimidating people. In fact, they should be the complete opposite. If anyone ever feels alone or confused on anything with YAG, we'll always be your number one, so you should never hesitate to reach out! I hope everyone has an amazing conference this year!
